Developing the Faith to Reap Book of Mormons!

Here's a miracle story for all of you!

We were going through some old areabook records and decided to visit a man named Inami San. We trekked up a huge mountain on our bikes and when we arrived at his house, he was surprised to see us. Apparently he met with the missionares about 30 years ago. He quickly ran back inside and came back out with an old copy of the "Morumon Kei" (old version of the Japanese Book of Mormon).

He opened up the back cover and taped inside was a photo of a young family along with their testimony. After closer inspection, I realized I knew this family! It was the Inomata's, a close family friends of ours. Brother Inomata was my father's trainer/missionary companion in the Sapporo mission. When my mother first joined the church, the Inomata Family helped fellowship her as a new member. They later introduced my parents to each other and well, the rest is history!

When I told all this to Inami San he seemed surprised by my over-excitement. He offered to give me his Morumon Kei, but we thought it was best to do an exchange instead. He traded in the old, dusty Morumon Kei for a brand new, sleek, Book of Mormon! He liked his new Book of Mormon so much that he invited us to come back for another visit.

Best exchange ever.

It was also an answer to our prayer to find another prepared person this week. This experience reminded me of something that I've studied periodically over the past several months is the concept of faith. The Ensign recently released an article entitled "Developing the Faith to Reap" by Wilford W. Anderson of the Seventy. This article introduces two distinct levels of faith - the faith to try and the faith to REAP.

In short, the faith to reap is faith in God`s power and His ability to fulfill all things "pertaining unto things of righteousness" (D&C 11:14). A power that is prerequisite upon aligning our will with God`s, obedience and hard work. It's faith in a power beyond our own.

I've tested out this concept a number of times as a missionary and I`m a witness of His power. I've seen Him change hearts, answer prayers and place prepared people in our paths through a variety of mysterious ways. God wants to fulfill all our righteous desires. All we need to do is exercise faith in His power!

So much love for you all.

Big Changes to Come

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year so far! We celebrated with some good mochi, sushi (I can actually eat it now), and visiting Buddhist Shrines!

Also have some big news concerning my mission.

THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT
I'm sure some of you have already heard by now, but the Sendai Japan Mission is no longer going to be a mission starting July of this year. The northern areas are going to become a part of the Sapporo Japan Mission while the southern areas will become a part of the new "Tokyo North Mission". President and Sister Sekiguchi are also transferring and will be over the Tokyo North Mission. Although it is hard to see these changes take place, I have full faith in this course of action. God does reveal His will to His prophets and this is what the people of Japan need at this time. We just need to keep trusting and moving forward! 😊

CHRISTMAS MIRACLE PART II
Last month on Christmas day we housed into an elderly woman named Sato San. When we told her who we were she was so excited and let us in! Turns out she is the mother of Brother Sato, one of the Izumi ward members! She has a granddaughter who recently returned from the Fukuoka Japan mission (fun fact: this sister missionary served in the same district as my cousin Ben Nukaya!). When Brother Sato heard that we visited his mother he was overwhelmed with joy! We are now all working together to help his parents come unto Christ and enjoy the blessings of the gospel.

TRANSFER CALLS
Our short transfer has come to an end and we received transfer calls! Suzuki Shimai is leaving me to go down south to Aizuwakamatsu! So sad to see her leave after only 4 weeks :(

Love and prayers for you always!

Happy New Years From Sendai!

New Years Dinner with the Migita family
Two Birthdays, two Halloweens, two Thanksgivings, two Christmases, and now TWO NEW YEARS! Seems like a lot of time when put into this perspective. But then again, it really was no time at all!

As a mission we received permission to stay up until 1 AM for New Years Eve. Suzuki Shimai and I CLEANED the entire apartment! It was a fun time :)

I am absolutely loving it here in Sendai! While our focus is centered around the Izumi ward, we also have access to cover other areas in the Sendai boundaries. My grandparents live about a 20 minute train ride away. They recently became our two newest students of the gospel!

My grandfather was  hopsitialized about two weeks ago, but thanks to many prayers, he was released just in time to spend New Years at home. We visited them this past week, as well as some other family members. We explained to them our purpose as missionaries and they invited us to continue coming back to share our message with them!

New Years often comes with alot of time for self-reflection. I definitely have many weaknesses and shortcomings. Many areas where I need to improve on. Elder Neal A. Maxwell described my feelings perfectly when he stated, "Following celestial road signs while in telestial traffic jams is not easy, especially when we are not just moving next door—or even across town."

We are shooting for the Celestial Kingdom here! It can be overwhelming at times, but through the Atonement of Jesus Christ we can have the "fresh start" that's often associated with New Years. Not just once at the beginning year, but anytime we are willing humble ourselves and come unto Christ. It really is the best gift ever!

My challenge to all of you is to strive to perfct yourself this year through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. All things are possible through Him and He wants us to become the best person we can be!

I wish you all the best this year!

Much Love,
Sister Matsuura
