New Years Dinner with the Migita family |
Two Birthdays, two Halloweens, two Thanksgivings, two
Christmases, and now TWO NEW YEARS! Seems like a lot of time when put into this
perspective. But then again, it really was no time at all!
As a mission we received permission to stay up until 1 AM
for New Years Eve. Suzuki Shimai and I CLEANED the entire apartment! It was a
fun time :)
I am absolutely loving it here in Sendai! While our focus is
centered around the Izumi ward, we also have access to cover other areas in the
Sendai boundaries. My grandparents live about a 20 minute train ride away. They
recently became our two newest students of the gospel!
My grandfather was
hopsitialized about two weeks ago, but thanks to many prayers, he was
released just in time to spend New Years at home. We visited them this past
week, as well as some other family members. We explained to them our purpose as
missionaries and they invited us to continue coming back to share our message
with them!

New Years often comes with alot of time for self-reflection.
I definitely have many weaknesses and shortcomings. Many areas where I need to
improve on. Elder Neal A. Maxwell described my feelings perfectly when he
stated, "Following celestial road signs while in telestial traffic jams is
not easy, especially when we are not just moving next door—or even across
town."
We are shooting for the Celestial Kingdom here! It can be
overwhelming at times, but through the Atonement of Jesus Christ we can have
the "fresh start" that's often associated with New Years. Not just
once at the beginning year, but anytime we are willing humble ourselves and
come unto Christ. It really is the best gift ever!
My challenge to all of you is to strive to perfct yourself
this year through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. All things are possible
through Him and He wants us to become the best person we can be!
I wish you all the best this year!
Much Love,
Sister Matsuura
