WHEN DID MORMON BECOME A COUNTRY?

April 9th, 2018

こんにちは皆さん!

Hello!

How is everyone? Some amazing events unfolded this week, I'll let you read on to find out!

MORMON THE COUNTRY
We walk up to a man and introduce ourselves as the Mormon missionaries. He seems fascinated and begins asking all these questions about who we are. He repeatedly asks what country we are from and we simply reply "America" every time. But he seems unsatisfied as we proceed to share our testimonies of the Book of Mormon with him. He takes the book and flips through the pages, pausing to look at the beautiful pictures. He proceeds to ask where we were from. Again we keep replying, "America." We ended the lesson with a prayer and he says we can come back to teach him more. We pass him to the Elders.

The Elders meet with him later and disclose the following information: Apparently the entire time this man was talking to us he thought we were "special representives" from the country Mormon, going all over Japan selling books (aka the Book of Mormon) about the history of our country. When we prayed with him at the end, he thought we were reciting our national anthem. Jacobson Shimai and I died! What a man. What an experience. It's kind of a bummer that Mormon isn't a real country because I'd definitely be the first person to move there.

HE IS OUR HEAVENLY FATHER
Every week we volunteer at a center for individuals with disabilities. We have the opportunity to work closely with one of the workers Yamada san. When we talk to her, she always brings up the topic of God, which leads to an amazing discussion of the role God plays in our lives. This past week, another worker joined in on the conversation. I started bearing testimony of how we believe God is our Heavenly Father and we are His Children. Yamada san then stops me and says, "No, we don't 'believe' He is our Heavenly Father. He IS our Heavenly Father!" I was blown away.

Yamada San says she wants to meet with us and talk more about God, but can't until next month because of work. I have high hopes for her. We are never giving up on her!
Guacamole on potato stir fry. It will change your life. Obviously Jacobson Shimai and I have to represent our inner Idaho by using potatoes for every meal. But just when we thought our stir fry meal couldn't get any better, we topped it off with homemade guacamole. HEAVEN SENT

THOUGHTS FROM GENERAL CONFERENCE
Amazing. Even though we knew all the spoilers :) But every announcement made is a testament to me that the work is moving forward! The Lord trusts us. He expects more of us. As we strive to minister unto others and show Christlike love to those around us by becoming meek, obedient, and humble, the Lord will be able to use us to further His work in the latter days!

Church is true!

Love you all so so much,

Matsuura Shimai
